Lemon Saaru/Rasam

Here is the another kind of Saaru/Rasam which i make often in my home.This can be done easily and its good when you have cold or fever.With little ghee and steaming hot rice this goes heavenly in your throat.Have a roasted potatoes as side dish and i would call it as Comfort food.  :)

Ingredients:
Small Tomato:1
Green Chilli: 1(as spicy)
Ginger:a small piece
Half of the Lemon
Boiled Toor dhal -1/4 cup

Jeera and Mustard seeds for tampering with curry leaves.


1.In a pan add oil(Ghee for extra flavor) and add jeera and mustard leaves
2.When it started to crackle add curry leaves and add the tomatoes and green chilli and fry a little.
3.When tomatoes starts to become soft add little water and add ginger.
4.When it starts to boil, add toor dhal and bring to boil.
5.Add salt as per taste.
6.If its too thick add water and bring to liquid consistensy.
7.Add the half of the lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves.


Serve hot with rice and some spicy roasted potatoes and Enjoy!!!

Note:In this Saaru/Rasam Ghee with Jeera(Cumin Seeds) gives a nice flavor,so dont forget to add.

Tomato Saaru/Rasam

Yes,that the number i got when i searched for tomato rasam in Google.Each and everyone have their own version of making this rasam.This is my version.
Saaru, yes in tulu.I have to say my hubby's is favorite.I do make different kinds but this one is his favorite.This is simple and quick and goes well with rice and ghee.


Ingredients:
Small Tomato-2
Green Chilli-1
Tamarind-Small lemon size(soak in warm water)
Toor dhal-a handful(pressure cooked)
Rasam Powder-1tbsp(MTR works good too)
Salt-as per taste
Jaggery-1tsp
Turmeric Powder-1/2tsp
Coriander leaves-for Garnish
Jeera and Mustard seeds with Curry leaves for Tampering

1.Cut the tomato and with a little water boil it.Can do in microwave in a safe bowl for 4mins.
2.Cool it and peel of the skin and smash it with potato masher or grind it a little.
3.In a pan with this mixture add the tamarind juice,salt,turmeric powder and jaggery.
4.Bring the mixture to boil and add the boiled toor dhal.
5.When it boils add the rasam powder and boil it.
6.If the mixture is thick add enough water to make flowing consistency.
7.Keep it in low flame and boil it until the froth comes up.
8.Garnish with coriander leaves
9.Tamper with mustard and jeera seeds with little oil.

Note: If you dont have boiled toor dhal in handy you can omit that step.
Serve hot with rice and ghee and Enjoy!!!

Mint Leaves Rasam





Well! This is my first post to my new blog.I'd like to share this recipe.I make this Mint leaves rasam often which is really good with rice and papad. Its quick and easy to do if you have cooked toor dhal handy and kind of having a different taste.





Ingredients:
1.Mint leaves-a handful
2.Tomato-1 small
3.Jeera-1 tpsp
4.Black pepper-1/2 tpsp
5.Cooked Toor Dhal-a handful
6.Tamarind Juice-1/2 cup
7.Turmeric powder-1/2tpsp 7.Salt-per taste
8.Rasam Powder-1tpsp
Mustard seeds,Jeera and curry Leaves for seasoning

How to make:
In a pan add a little oil and add tomato,mint leaves,pepper and jeera. Fry till the mint leaves shrinks.cool it and grind it in a blender.
Now in a pot add this ground with tamarind juice and 2 cups of water.
Bring to boil and add toor dhal to this mixture.you can grind the dhal and add or you can simple add it.Add rasam powder and salt as per your taste.
Do the seasoning in the end.
